My Vision Quest: Reintegration and Reflections After 1 Week

Today marks one week since my vision quest, and although it feels like much longer, I’m trying to integrate back into my normal life with grace.

As I reflect on what I’ve learned, I’m actively trying to bring those lessons with me into each moment.

Here are a few things I discovered during my vision quest:

First, my family is truly the most important thing in my life. I’ve been struggling with confidence and questioning the value I add to my family, but I realized that loving them is enough. Comparing myself to others or even my past self is pointless. I’m unique, and only I can provide my family with the love, support, and relationships that I can offer.

Secondly, I missed cooking. I’ve been taking my relationship with food for granted, and after some severe stomach issues, I stopped enjoying meals. During my quest, I realized that food is a delicious, intimate relationship with nature and the gifts of the earth.

Lastly, I found that music lifts my spirit. Being in isolation for two days without food or human interaction made me realize the power of music. From top pop hits to old-school rap and hip-hop, I found endless joy in reciting and jamming to tunes.

Since returning from my vision quest, my greatest adjustments have been in relation to family and food. Despite the occasional frustration with my kids, I found ways to ground myself and appreciate their presence. I even had a spiritual experience while speaking with my new mentor, Tomas, an initiated shaman. He helped me better understand and connect with my ancestral roots, and I’m incredibly grateful for that. Going through old family albums with him, I felt a sense of belonging and fulfillment. Tomas said, “I’m bringing you into the fold,” and I felt the weight of his words. It was as if my desire to understand my heritage was being fulfilled, and I was being welcomed home.

As I move forward, I will continue to cherish my family, cultivate a positive relationship with food, and embrace the power of music. My vision quest taught me to appreciate the present moment and the unique gifts I can only offer to the world. I look forward to continuing this journey and sharing whatever I find with you.
