A Morning Love Letter: Sight, Song + Smell

Lately, I’ve been really looking forward to the fall and winter seasons. We live in a very arid climate where 100-degree weather with zero humidity is a daily normal thing. Since the climate is so similar to desert conditions the fall and winter months are delightfully cool.  Nights can even reach the frosty 30s. While we don’t experience four traditional seasons, I absolutely LOVE our fall and winter.

So today, I woke up after months of 100-degree weather (which I don’t mind, but you start waiting for change naturally) to a sight that shocked me at first. When I couldn’t see the mountains, I was immediately worried there was a fire. But as I continued down into the living room, I saw that the “smoke” had streaks floating along the hillside, and… at that moment, I could have cried.

I ran outside and felt the crisp scent of earthy mountain mist and its sister, the cool light breeze on my skin.  I stood there and prayed thanks. Ran around the house to open all the windows. Letting in all the blessings of our extended family. Listening to the birds and reminiscing the years we spent camping in the mountains near southern San Francisco. Blessed.

Thank you, Mother Divine, for your gifts. Thank you, Father Sun, for shining your love on her so that we may all feel and see her blessings. I know I’ve been neglecting connecting with you and the extended family, but it’s time to return to my walks in the hills. One day I’ll venture into the mountains, but right now, I can’t wait to feel you beneath my feet and be deeply surrounded by your beauty through sight, song, and smell.

Yours truly.
